Sarah Burton, LMHC, MCAP

My experience is varied both as a clinician and a administrator. I’ve worked in Community Mental Health and Outpatient Settings. In my clinical work, I’ve helped individuals and families who are not able to independently resolve some of their issues in a healthy way. Some of my clinical areas of expertise include substance use disorders, relapse prevention, dual diagnosis disorders, anxiety and depression. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Psychology that I received from the Illinois State University in 2016 and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Master Certified Addiction Professional.

Philosophy of Treatment

My belief is that my client needs a trusting environment to be able to being to explore the inner struggles. In our work, I will help you feel empowered by giving you training and education on skill you can use and help you gain better understanding of your strengths. I truly believe that people can change if given good support, proper treatment and openness to the process.

In therapy I use different models but with a Cognitive Behavioral foundation, I find that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy are highly effective models. Using a holistic approach I evaluate the whole person and help you work on a plan to obtain support where you need them. As a client centered therapist, I go at your pace. I prefer to provide my client with intervention that are individualized to them. My approach is to listen and provide reassurance and then teach skills that you can use so you can have control of your life.
